From Lab to Landfill Solution: Advancing MSW Pyrolysis in the Philippines Through Strategic Partnership with New Century Builders Inc.

2026-03-24 5 minutes

The Philippines’ municipal solid waste (MSW) crisis is a critical, ongoing threat: garbage mountain collapses plague communities weekly, with 2026’s Cebu City landfill disaster (1 fatality, multiple trapped) and 2025’s Metro Manila/Iloilo/Davao collapses highlighting the fatal risks of overreliance on overcrowded landfills. Generating 21,000 metric tons of MSW daily—only 30% recycled—the nation needs scalable, waste-to-value solutions, and plasma pyrolysis is the game-changer.

Our pyrolysis engineering team recently visited the Plasma Pyrolysis Laboratory at the Department of Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering (DMMME), University of the Philippines (UP), a Southeast Asian hub for sustainable waste research, for deep technical collaboration. We aligned our industrial plasma pyrolysis expertise with the lab’s localized MSW conversion research, refining processes for the Philippines’ unique waste stream (organic/plastics/debris) to maximize fuel yield (syngas, bio-oil), eliminate toxic byproducts, and optimize small-to-medium plant costs—proving plasma pyrolysis is a tested, local-adapted technology, not just theory.

Key Technical Insights from the Visit is plasma systems demonstrate strong capability in handling heterogeneous and hazardous waste fractions. High-temperature plasma (>1,800°C) ensures complete decomposition of complex materials. However, standalone plasma systems face challenges in scalability and operational cost for large-volume MSW.

So the strategic conclusion is for large-scale deployment, the optimal approach is: Hybrid integration of plasma pyrolysis + continuous pyrolysis production lines This allows: Plasma to handle complex waste streams while continuous pyrolysis to deliver stable, high-throughput fuel production. This combined solution is particularly suitable for developing economies with mixed MSW composition, such as the Philippines.

The framework developed through this collaboration can be replicated into other SEA countries who also face the challenge of MSW.To turn this innovation into on-the-ground impact, we’re proud to announce an official strategic partnership with New Century Builders Inc., a leading Philippine infrastructure firm, formalized at a signing ceremony with key government and industry stakeholders. Combining our global pyrolysis technology with their plasma pyrolysis technology and local infrastructure and market expertise, we’ll deliver turnkey MSW plasma pyrolysis plants, local technician training, MSW-to-fuel circular economy integration, and government policy alignment—mitigating execution risk and building local technical capacity. We are honored to be a supplier of plasma pyrolysis plants in the Philippines.

For investors, government bodies, and recyclers, this partnership unlocks tangible value: investors gain multi-revenue stream (fuel/carbon byproduct sales) projects with low risk and sustainability incentives; governments eliminate landfill risks, cut maintenance costs, and hit circular economy goals; recyclers monetize “unrecyclable” MSW.

Plasma pyrolysis turns the Philippines’ waste liability into renewable fuel and circular economy opportunity. If you’re an investor, government stakeholder, or recycler ready to solve the MSW crisis, contact our team for a customized, no-obligation plasma pyrolysis consultation—let’s build a sustainable future for the Philippines together.
