In the afternoon of September 6, 2025, a crucial meeting concerning environmental governance and green development of Zanzibar, an East African island country - the Zanzibar - Pyrojin Industrial Municipal Waste Recycling and Reuse Project Green Circular Economy Seminar, was successfully held in the factory area of Jinpeng Industrial Co., Ltd. (Pyrojin) in Shangqiu City, Henan Province. Representatives from the Zanzibar government, Henan Province, Shangqiu City Development Zone, and Pyrojin Industrial gathered together to conduct in-depth exchanges around the theme of municipal waste recycling and reuse, writing a practical chapter for China-Tanzania (Zanzibar) environmental protection cooperation.

Heavyweight Guests Gather to Discuss New Topics on Waste Governance

Hosted by Shangqiu Jinpeng Industrial Co., Ltd. (Pyrojin), the seminar brought together core forces from both government and enterprises:

Zanzibar Delegation: Led by MS. Zena Ahmed Said, Principal Secretary of the President's Office, and MR. Sheha Mjaja Juma, Minister of Environment and Resources Management, with the attendance of Dr. Miraji Ukuti Ussi, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Tanzania in China, and Ms. Halima Ali Mwinyi, Assistant Principal Secretary of the President's Office. They shared in depth the current situation and needs of waste governance in Zanzibar.

At 14:00 p.m., the seminar kicked off on schedule. The four-hour agenda advanced layer by layer around the theme of "Problems - Solutions - Feasibility - Cooperation", covering both macro-strategic exchanges and discussions on technical details:

Opening Ceremony: Anchoring the Significance of Cooperation

After the host's opening remarks, Chang Binglian, former Deputy Director of Shangqiu Development Zone, delivered a speech first. He pointed out that the Zanzibar - Pyrojin Industrial Waste Recycling and Reuse Project is not only a key opportunity to deepen environmental protection cooperation between the two sides, but also a vivid practice of friendly and practical cooperation between China and Tanzania (Zanzibar). "This project will provide strong support for Zanzibar to solve the problem of 'garbage siege' and create employment opportunities. Shangqiu Development Zone will fully provide policy guarantees and service support to promote the early implementation and effectiveness of the project."
Subsequently, Niu Yongchao, Chairman of Pyrojin Industrial, delivered a speech. He reviewed Pyrojin Industrial's journey in the pyrolysis field since 1985, and emphasized the company's 40 years of technical accumulation and global project experience in the field of waste recycling and reuse equipment manufacturing: "From ISO 9001 quality management system certification to EU CE certification, from the waste tire treatment project in Côte d'Ivoire to the municipal waste pyrolysis project in South Korea, Pyrojin has always aimed at 'zero pollution and high utilization'. This time, we are willing to bring mature technologies and customized solutions to Zanzibar to help the local green development."

Keynote Speeches: Facing Challenges and Presenting "Chinese Solutions"

MR. Sheha Mjaja Juma, Minister of Environment and Resources Management of Zanzibar, took in delivering a keynote speech on "Current Situation and Challenges of Waste in Zanzibar". He revealed that Zanzibar has a population of about 1.5 million and generates 230 tons of municipal waste every day. At present, only half of the waste can be collected and treated. The improperly disposed waste is seriously polluting water sources, damaging the coastal ecology, and even threatening the health of residents and the development of tourism. "The government is in urgent need of a sustainable waste treatment solution, which is not only related to the environment, but also to the long-term development of Zanzibar."
Immediately after, technical experts from Pyrojin Industrial delivered a speech titled "Pyrojin Industrial Solutions" and presented a customized solution based on the characteristics of Zanzibar's waste: "The kitchen waste treatment equipment we designed for the local area has a daily processing capacity of 30-50 tons per unit. Through low-temperature anaerobic pyrolysis technology, waste can be converted into resources such as fuel oil, carbon black, and combustible gas, realizing 'zero waste and zero harm'. After the project is completed, it can handle more than 150 tons of municipal waste every day, reduce landfill volume by 80%, and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 50,000 tons per year." At the same time, the experts also showed the project achievements of Pyrojin Industrial implemented around the world. Examples such as waste reduction data and resource recycling rate gave the guests present a more intuitive understanding of the technical feasibility.

Technical Seminar: Accurately Solving Project Implementation Problems

In the discussion session of "Technical Feasibility and Innovation", the host guided industry experts, Pyrojin's technical team, and Zanzibar's technical personnel to conduct in-depth dialogues. The two sides focused on the adaptability of municipal waste pyrolysis equipment and composting equipment in Zanzibar - in response to the characteristics of local waste composition, Pyrojin's technical personnel put forward targeted countermeasures; regarding the direction of technological innovation, the two sides discussed how to improve composting efficiency, optimize resource recycling processes, and shared the path of combining international advanced experience with localization. During the lively discussion, the details of cooperation were continuously improved, and the confidence in project implementation was continuously strengthened.

Post-Seminar Field Visit: Deepening Cooperation and Jointly Mapping a Green Blueprint
After the seminar, Niu Yongchao, Chairman of Pyrojin Industrial, further led the distinguished Zanzibar delegation on a field visit: first, they visited the kitchen waste treatment plant in Shangqiu City to observe the whole process of converting domestic waste into "treasures" on site; then, they went to the pyrolysis equipment factory in Heze, Shandong Province to have an in-depth understanding of the details of equipment R&D and production.
During the visit, Principal Secretary Zena Ahmed Said highly praised Pyrojin's technical achievements: "From the laboratory to the factory, from the plan to the implementation examples, Pyrojin has let us see the hope of solving Zanzibar's waste problem." During the visit, the two sides continued to discuss the optimization plan for green municipal waste treatment, clarified the key nodes for the follow-up promotion of cooperation, and pressed the "accelerator button" for the project to move from "seminar consensus" to "practical implementation".
This Zanzibar - Pyrojin Industrial Waste Recycling Project Seminar is not only an accurate connection between technology and needs, but also a practical practice for China and Tanzania (Zanzibar) to jointly build the "Green Silk Road". In the future, with the gradual implementation of the project, Pyrojin Industrial will use Chinese technology and Chinese solutions to help Zanzibar solve environmental problems, at the same time open up new space for China-Tanzania (Zanzibar) economic and trade cooperation and environmental protection exchanges, and contribute "China-Zanzibar wisdom" to the development of the global circular economy!
